Connect Channels: Usage Guidelines

Last updated: March 18, 2026

When to Create a New Channel

  • A new recurring workflow or function is being established that doesn't fit an existing channel.

  • A project has a defined scope, team, and timeline.

  • A new store location or department is being onboarded.

  • Do not create new channels for one-off questions — use an existing operational channel instead.

Naming Best Practices

  • Always use lowercase and hyphens — no spaces, underscores, or special characters.

  • Keep names short and descriptive (ideally under 30 characters).

  • Use location codes consistently (e.g., bos, nyc, la) if your org uses them.

  • Avoid abbreviations unless they are universally understood across your team.

Channel Hygiene

  • Review all channels quarterly and archive inactive ones.

  • Project channels should be archived within 30 days of project close.

  • Channel descriptions must always include purpose and owner.

  • Avoid duplicate channels — search before creating.
